The first few days for a First Year, especially Madeline, were always the worst days.
You'd get your schedule, and it would have a few Study Halls here and there because you weren't taking as many classes as a Second or Third Year would have. It was great to have a bit more time on your hands, but you'd probably use up all of the time trying to figure out just where each classroom was - even if it did say where they were in the first place. Being a First Year herself, Madeline had to figure out what was going on.
She sat at the Hufflepuff table in the Great Hall, sipping down some orange juice for breakfast. Her bagel and cream cheese were sitting on a little plate in front of her, as well as her class schedule. Herbology with the Ravenclaws first, followed by Potions with the Gryffindors after that. Weren't they on opposite ends of the school? She remembered the Prefects walking the youngsters around the school, but there was no chance in Hell that she was going to remember where the classrooms were.
There was no hope that she's even make it to Potions in time, and her teacher would kill her if she was ever late, so what was the point of having a class in the minutes between? There weren't enough minutes in the day for her to get there in a decent amount of time. Maybe another sip of orange juice can help me think of something.
