It's been how long now, and I've only covered so much of the school?
Madeline had been a Hufflepuff for not even two days, and she hadn't seen much of Hogwarts. She had only been to the Great Hall, the common room; besides that, she hadn't seen anything else. The classrooms were still a mystery to her (she'd eventually get some classes in, she thought), and everywhere else had to be done with supervision. The young First Year was just so overwhelmed with the school that she was about to have a panic attack.
Suddenly, she saw it. Not just anything, but it was the portrait of fruit on the wall leading to the common room. Madeline had been wondering just why there was a portrait of fruit on the wall at that particular spot. The Prefects didn't tell her why that was the case, other than she'd find out sooner or later. It looked pretty heavy, so moving it out of the way was definitely out of the question. How was she supposed to see what, if anything, was behind there?
She decided, in an instant, that maybe it was smart to move her hands along the portrait. There were many different fruits on the wall, so maybe one of these was the ticket to getting in? She hoped so. Her stomach started to grumble on her, which meant that she was getting hungry.

Gosh, this thing is the hardest thing to open ever. I'm doing something wrong.
It took Madeline all of her might to get the door to open. She touched each and every fruit on the portrait, even moved her fingers over them a few times, but it didn't seem as though the portrait made even a squeaking open noise. This irritated the Hufflepuff, who was beginning to wonder if the door was ever going to open.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a young girl, walking by herself through the dungeons. What's she doing here by herself, Madeline wondered as the girl tickled what looked to be a pear on the portrait. If only I had done that earlier. I guess I've got a lot more to learn before I roam the school by myself. She smiled in the direction of the girl, wearing Slytherin robes, as the portrait moved out of the way. The smile on her face turned into a look of shock as she noticed what looked to be little elves running around the kitchen, preparing meals left and right.
"Uh... Thank you," Madeline said, walking in with the Slytherin girl. She walked into the room a bit further, making sure she didn't step on any of the elves' toes. When she overheard the Slytherin - whom was still without a name - order the plates of food, the Hufflepuff was very gracious. One of those plates must be for me. Maybe Slytherins aren't all that mean and rotten.
Madeline cleared her throat. "Thank you again. I'm sorry... I'm not sure I caught your name." She sounded a bit nervous, but hoped that the girl wasn't going to tease her for not learning the ropes.

Madeline was surprised to know two things at the current moment.
1. Casseopeia was a friendly Slytherin. 2. Casseopeia knew Madeline's name right away.
At least one of those was subject to change at any time. And it certainly wasn't the latter.
Unfortunately, though, the sirens in her head didn't go off right away. Maybe she has some sort of magical telepathy that I don't know about, she thought as she was handed a plate of food. The plate contained chicken, some vegetables and some cornbread. That had all been on the menu tonight, but according to Casse, she was in detention and wasn't able to join in. Taking a hold of the fork, Madeline began to nibble on the chicken.
When Casse asked Madeline what she liked to do, the Hufflepuff stopped eating, looked over, and spoke up. "Well..."
Right away, one could tell that the young Hufflepuff was nervous. She didn't know what to say. What were her interests? She really didn't have any interests, to be honest. Or they weren't as interesting as one would like to think.
"Um... I like to sit by the fireplace and read," she began, very certain that she was starting to make a fool of herself. "And I do like spending time around the water. I'm a pretty good swimmer, from what my parents say..."
It was official. Madeline was quite boring.
